Cornelis Zitman, Dutch sculptor and draftsman born in 1926.
He enrolled in the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in The Hague at the age of fifteen. On completing his studies in 1947, he refused compulsory military participation, as he disagreed with Holland's political actions in Indonesia, and fled the country aboard a Swedish oil tanker that would take him to Venezuela. He settled in the city of Coro, where he found work as a technical draftsman for a construction company. In his free time, he painted and made his first incursions into the field of sculpture.
Two years later he moved to Caracas, where he worked as a furniture designer at a factory of which he later became manager. In 1951, he received the National Sculpture Prize. He began teaching classes in design at Central University of Venezuela and continued drawing and painting.
In 1964, he worked as a smelting apprentice to the sculptor Pieter Starreveld before returning definitively to Venezuela, contracted by Central University as a professor of design.
He died in 2016.

On November 10 is the birthday of

Auguste Nicolas Cain, French sculptor born in 1821, specialized in portraits of animals. He died in 1894.

Louis le Brocquy, Irish painter born 1916 in Dublin. His work received many accolades in a career that spanned some seventy years of creative practice. In 1956, he represented Ireland at the Venice Biennale, winning the Premio Acquisito Internationale with A Family (National Gallery of Ireland).
Le Brocquy is widely acclaimed for his evocative "Portrait Heads" of literary figures and fellow artists, which include William Butler Yeats, James Joyce, and his friends Samuel Beckett, Francis Bacon and Seamus Heaney, in recent years le Brocquy's early "Tinker" subjects and Grey period "Family" paintings, have attracted attention on the international marketplace placing le Brocquy within a very select group of British and Irish artists whose works have commanded prices in excess of £1 million during their lifetimes that include Lucian Freud, David Hockney, Frank Auerbach, and Francis Bacon.
He died in 2012.

On November 11 is the birthday of

Frans Snyders (or Snijders), Flemish painter of animals and still lifes born in 1579. Her parents ran a restaurant in Antwerp artists frequented. Is documented as a student of Pieter Brueghel the Younger in 1592/1593, and subsequently received training with Hendrick van Balen, the first master of Antoon van Dyck.
He entered the Antwerp painters' guild in 1602. He visited Italy in 1608-9. He initially devoted himself to painting flowers, fruits and subjects of still life, but later turned to painting animals, and executed with great skill and spirit hunting scenes and wild animal fights. He was one of the first major animaliers specialists. It is believed that he created two new types of painting: still life of hunting and "pantries". His excellence in this type of painting aroused the admiration of Rubens, who often used him to paint animals, fruits and still life in his own pictures, and also assisted Jacob Jordaens, Thomas Willeboirts Bosschaert and other artists similarly. He died in 1657.

Paul Victor Jules Signac, French Neo-Impressionist painter born in 1863 who, working with Georges Seurat, helped develop the Pointillist style.
He followed a course of training in architecture before deciding at the age of 18 to pursue a career as a painter after attending an exhibit of Monet's work. He sailed around the coasts of Europe, painting the landscapes he encountered. He also painted a series of watercolors of French harbor cities in later years.
In 1884 he met Claude Monet and Georges Seurat. He was struck by the systematic working methods of Seurat and by his theory of colors and became Seurat's faithful supporter, friend and heir with his description of Neo-Impressionism and Divisionism method. Under his influence he abandoned the short brushstrokes of Impressionism to experiment with scientifically juxtaposed small dots of pure color, intended to combine and blend not on the canvas but in the viewer's eye, the defining feature of Pointillism.
He died in 1935.

On November 12 is the birthday of

René François Auguste Rodin, French sculptor born in 1840.
Framed in absolute academicism of the neoclassical school of sculpture was not only the sculptor responsible for ending more than two centuries of search for mimesis in the three-dimensional arts, but also gave a new direction to the design of the monument and public sculpture. Because of this, Rodin was called in the history of art as "the first modern."
"The Bronze Age", the first bronze statue by Rodin, 178 x 59 x 61 cm. was made in 1877 using as a model a young soldier. He sculpted it during 18 months after a trip to Italy where he studied thoroughly Michelangelo, whose influence is undeniable. With this work he became known at the Paris Salon of 1877. The idea was to represent a man who embodied the spirit of a primitive being at its purest.
The work was the subject of heated controversy, as the jury of artistic and literary circle in Brussels, where he was presented the cast in the same year, under the name of "The defeated", refused it, and published that it was made of a drain naturally and not from a clay model of the sculptor.
In 1900 he exhibited at the Universal Exposition in Paris under the name of The Man Who Wakes (L'homme qui s'éveille).
Rodin died in 1917.

Mattia Moreni, Italian painter and sculptor born in 1920.
After receiving a Neocubist training between 1952 and 1954, was part of the Group of Eight, with Afro, Birolli, Corpora, Santomaso, Morlotti, Turcato and Vedova, and is one of the first to grasp the novelty of informal thematic.
In 1954 he won the second edition of Spoleto. In 1956, Francesco Arcangeli participated in the Venice Biennale.
In 1964 he began working in the cycle of "Watermelons" to which he devoted himself for over 12 years, and he gathered a significant selection at the Venice Biennale in 1972. Later, in 1975, in the anthology's Municipal Art Gallery of Ravenna, presents the entire range of "watermelons" including sculptures, wood and painted iron.
He died in 1999.

On November 13 is the birthday of

Oda Jaune, Bulgarian painter born in 1979 in Sofia.
Between 1998 and 2003 she studied under Jörg Immendorff (whom he married in 2000) at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf. In 2003 she won the second prize at Emprise Art Award. She has exhibited regularly since 2002.
Oda Jaune lives and works in Paris.

Roger Somville, Belgian painter born in 1923. He defended realism against modern abstract art, which he believed de-humanize human beings.
In his book, Peindre, he denounces among other things; "tricks in the shape of art", "empty productions", "triumph of less than nothing", "null simplism", "aesthete bricolage", "conformity of what's never been seen" and (the) "submissiveness of the modern art in a globalized market" ...
Somvile was a member of the Communist Party and accordingly wrote "La Création d’un art public exaltant la vie et le travail des hommes, leurs luttes, leurs souffrances, leurs joies, leurs victoires et leurs espoirs ; art à placer à la portée de tous, là où passent et vivent les hommes". ("The Creation of a public art praising men's life and work, their fights, their griefs, their joys, their victories, and their hopes; an art made for everybody to carry it there where men pass and live.")
He died in 2014.

On November 14 is the birthday of

Louis Marcoussis (Ludwig Casimir Ladislas Markus), Polish painter and engraver, born 1878 in Warsaw, and settled in France.
He first exhibited in Paris at the Salon d'Automne of 1905. He earned his living drawing cartoons for the satirical newspapers. He frequented the cafes and the Bateau-Lavoir, became acquainted with other artists such as Braque, Degas, Picasso, Apollinaire and Puteaux group. The latter will make frenchify his name with the town of Marcoussis, near the capital.
In 1925 he has a solo exhibition for the first time. From that time travel and exposures occurred: UK, Italy, Belgium, United States ...
During the 30s he devoted himself especially to engraving. In 1940, with the arrival of German troops, he takes refuge in Cusset where dies a year later.

Johann Ludwig Aberli, Swiss painter and etcher born in 1723 in Winterthur.
He is primarily known for his landscapes of Switzerland, first etched in contours then painted or colorized. This style is later to be known as the Aberli manner and found many imitators, such as Heinrich Rieter Senior, Franz Niklaus König or Johann Jakob Bidermann.
He trained Samuel Hieronymus Grimm. He is said to have trained with J. Erim in Bern. He died in Bern, aged 53.

Today,  November 15, is the birthday of

Enrique Carbajal, better known as "Sebastian", Mexican sculptor born in Camargo (Chihuahua, Mexico) in 1947.
He is known for his monumental sculptures made of steel or concrete, which decorate many cities around the world, from San Antonio, Dallas (Texas) to Osaka, Japan.
Since the late sixties he began to create a unique sculpture in Mexican and Latin American tradition. His constructive vocation, fed by the principles of kinetic art, are initially expressed in the creation of sculptures convertible or cleavable, including his flexible cube named Leonardo 4 is a unique example.
He studied at the National School of Arts of the National Autonomous University of Mexico. With persistence and deep appreciation to Henry Moore and Pablo Picasso, won first place in the Annual Exhibition of 1965 at the National School of Arts of the UNAM.

Hermann Ottomar Herzog, prominent nineteenth- and early twentieth-century European and American artist, born in 1832 in Bremen, Germany, primarily known for his landscapes. He is associated with the Düsseldorf school of painting.
In the late 1860s, after an extensive trip to Norway, Herzog settled permanently near Philadelphia in the United States. Thereafter, he traveled throughout the U.S. and Mexico. He painted his way across the western states, arriving in California in 1873. His works from this trip included a series of Yosemite Valley paintings. In 1876, he received an award at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition for his painting of Sentinel Rock in Yosemite. Herzog also made extensive trips to Maine and Florida to paint.
Herzog's work is sometimes considered to be part of the Hudson River School, although it is more realistic and less dramatic than works by peers Frederic Edwin Church or Albert Bierstadt.
He died in 1932.
