Liu Shuwei (刘树伟), fotógrafo chino nacido en 1986 en Tangshan.

«"Visible darkness" is part of my "Blue" trilogy . Blue is darkness made visible, which still carries the well-known metaphor of melancholy and freedom, exists largely in this series of photographs taken mostly at nightfall and night.»

"Después del tifón / After the Typhoon", Anibong, Tacloban, Filipinas, Enero, 2014 / Philippines, January, 2014

On November 8th, 2013, Typhoon Haiyan wreaked havoc across much of the central Philippines. In total, more than 8,000 people were killed, and more than four million people were forced to leave their homes. In the short term, the typhoon left up to 14 million people in need of immediate, life-saving assistance. It also pushed millions of people further into poverty and debt. Rice crops, coconut trees and fishing boats were wiped out, leaving people struggling to grow food and earn an income.
Roberts was invited to collaborate with Oxfam to create a series of photographs, which aim to move beyond traditional post-disaster documentation tracing more subtle changes in the landscape over time and exploring how lives are beginning to be rebuilt, and the challenges that still remain. He made two visits to one of the regions worst hit by Yolanda, Tacloban, first in early January 2014 and then in late September 2014, prior to the first anniversary in November.

On February 1 is the birthday of

Vivian Dorothy Maier, American street photographer born in 1926.
Maier worked for about forty years as a nanny, mostly in Chicago's North Shore, pursuing photography during her spare time. She took more than 150,000 photographs during her lifetime, primarily of the people and architecture of New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles, although she also traveled and photographed worldwide.
During her lifetime, Maier's photographs were unknown and unpublished, and she never printed many of her negatives. A Chicago collector, John Maloof, acquired some of Maier's photos in 2007, while two other Chicago-based collectors, Ron Slattery and Randy Prow, also found some of Maier's prints and negatives in her boxes and suitcases around the same time. Maier's photographs were first published on the Internet in July 2008, by Slattery, but the work received little response. In October 2009, Maloof linked his blog to a selection of Maier's photographs on the image-sharing website Flickr, and the results went "viral", with thousands of people expressing interest. Critical acclaim and interest in Maier's work quickly followed, and since then, Maier's photographs have been exhibited in North America, Europe, Asia and South America while her life and work have been the subject of books and documentary films.
She died in 2009.

On February 2 is the birthday of

Liu Shu Wei (刘树伟), Chinese photographer born in 1986 in Tangshan. He lives in Beijing.
He grew up in the countryside in northern China. He entered the university to study engineering, but quickly realized that was not what fascinated him, so in the fourth year decided to pursue photography.
"At age 7 I began to grow plants. After a while I became very good growing Chinese roses. I loved to give flowers cultivated to my neighbors. It made me profoundly happy to expand the beauty ... the love of plants has always had a positive role in my life."
Liu works in personal projects making photographs of friends, travels and nature.

On February 3 is the birthday of

Francis E. Stafford, American photographer born in 1884 that moved to Shanghai in 1909 where he worked for Commercial Press for six years.
Stafford is best known for his photography of the Chinese Revolution (1911), also known as the Xinhai Revolution, in which the last dynasty was overthrown. He also took hundreds of important images of Chinese social life during the period from 1909 to 1915.
Stafford was commissioned by Commercial Press of Shanghai to take pictures for the books being published at that time, as many of his photos appear in books published at that time by Commercial Press. One of these books was a textbook titled Geography of China and was published in 1911, which contained about 25 of his photos. Another book, titled China's Revolution: 1911-1912 by Edwin Dingle, contains many of Stafford's photographs of soldiers fighting on both sides of the famous 1911 Wuchange Uprising in the Wuhan area of China. A Commercial Press handbook states the Francis Stafford brought color printing technology to China.
He died in 1938.

On February 4 is the birthday of

Candida Höfer, German photographer born in 1944, a former student of Bernd and Hilla Becher.
Like other Becher students – Axel Hütte, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Ruff, Thomas Struth – Höfer's work is known for technical perfection and a strictly conceptual approach. From 1997 to 2000, she taught as professor at the Hochschule für Gestaltung, Karlsruhe.
After Graduation, she began working for newspapers as a portrait photographer, producing a series on Liverpudlian poets. From 1970 to 1972, she studied daguerreotypes while working as an assistant to Werner Bokelberg in Hamburg. She later attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1973 to 1982, where she studied film under Ole John and, from 1976, photography under Bernd Becher.
Höfer began taking color photographs of interiors of public buildings, such as offices, banks, and waiting rooms, in 1979 while studying in Düsseldorf. Her breakthrough to fame came with a series of photographs showing guest workers in Germany, after which she concentrated on the subjects "Interiors", "Rooms" and "Zoological Gardens". Höfer specialises in large-format photographs of empty interiors and social spaces that capture the "psychology of social architecture". Her photographs are taken from a classic straight-on frontal angle or seek a diagonal in the composition. She tends to shoot each actionless room from an elevated vantage point near one wall so that the far wall is centered within the resulting image. From her earliest creations, she has been interested in representing public spaces such as museums, libraries, national archives, or opera houses devoid of all human presence. Höfer’s imagery has consistently focused on these depopulated interiors since the 1980s.

On February 5 is the birthday of

Simon Roberts, British photographer born in 1974, whose work has been exhibited and published internationally.
Roberts studied a BA Hons in Human Geography at the University of Sheffield (1996). He currently lives in Brighton, England.
Between July 2004 and August 2005 Roberts travelled throughout Russia, taking in 65 destinations from Kaliningrad to Vladivostok. This resulted in the book and exhibition Motherland and the exhibition Polyarnye Nochi (Polar Nights).
Between August 2007 and September 2008 Roberts travelled throughout England in a motor home using a large format camera capturing people at play, and exploring the relationship between people and the places they visit. This resulted in the book and exhibition We English.
Roberts has also made other series of work: Russian Army (2004–2008), Ramzan Kadyrov (2006), Russian Portraits (2004–2008) (some of which appear in Motherland), Liverpool Landscapes (2009), British Olympians, Polyarnye Nochi, City Councils (2011) and more.

On February 6 is the birthday of

Caras Ionut, young Romanian artist born in 1978, who until a couple of years ago he made his living as a sailor. Then he developed his passion for photomanipulation. Since then he has developed a huge body of work with highly original creations.
"...I thing that being a photographer is more harder than going digital, but here it also depends, because to have one unique and strong idea is quite difficult, to know your “power” and to able you created it is also hard. My style is to create something easy readable, not some abstract strange work, because I love poetry, stories and beautiful art."

Today, February 7, is the birthday of

František Provazník, Czech photographer and rower, Olimpic athlet winner of a bronze medal for Czechoslovakia in the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics.
He is British citizenship since 1991.
He has been producing professional & art photography for over 25 years, working and exhibiting in the United Kingdom, Europe, as well as in Czech Republic.
As a portrait photographer he worked among the others with John le Carré, R. Branson, Benazir Bhutto, Muhamad Ali, Iris Murdoch, sir John Rothenstein and the others, while living in U.K.
